Report: ‘Growing confidence’ 22-year-old will be a Spurs player before the season starts

According to the PA news agency (via Yahoo Sports), there is now a belief at Tottenham Hotspur that Micky van de Ven will be a Spurs player before the club’s Premier League season opener against Brentford.

There appears to have been some significant breakthrough in Tottenham’s talks with Wolfsburg over Van de Ven over the last couple of days, with multiple outlets reporting over the last 48 hours that a deal is now close (Daily Mail).

However, Fabrizio Romano clarified on Thursday that the deal is not quite done just yet as there remains a distance between the two clubs’ valuations.

He explained that Spurs sent a proposal of €40m (£34.4m) plus €5m (£4.3m) in add-ons for the centre-back while the Bundesliga side are demanding a total package of €50m (£43m) with easier add-ons.

Van de Ven expected to be completed within a week

According to PA Sports’ update, the two clubs are ‘advancing’ over the transfer of Van de Ven even though there is no final agreement on the fee just yet.

It is revealed that Ange Postecoglou gave the green light to sign the Dutchman as soon as he arrived at Spurs and that the dialogue between the clubs regarding the 22-year-old started last month.

The report asserts that there is now a growing confidence that Van de Ven will be a Tottenham player before the Lilywhites begin their new campaign.

Postecoglou would have wanted this deal completed much quicker, given that centre-back was evidently a priority area to strengthen.

Even if Van de Ven arrives within the next few days, he is unlikely to play any part in the Brentford game as he would have not had more than a couple of training sessions with the squad.
