Report: Micky Van de Ven breaks incredible all-time Premier League record

We knew Micky van de Ven was quick, but the Spurs defender has now broken the record for the quickest speed ever recorded in the Premier League.

Micky van de Ven signed for Tottenham from German side Wolfsburg in the summer for an initial £34.5m (Sky Sports), and that deal is now looking like an absolute bargain.

The Dutchman has forged a brilliant partnership with Cristian Romero at the heart of Ange Postecoglou‘s defence. It seems van de Ven has had something of a calming influence on the typically fiery Argentine, with the pair proving to be the perfect foil for one another.

With his incredible composure, great passing ability, and an inconceivable talent for covering vast distances and tracking back to save the team, van de Ven is now considered one of the most important players in this Spurs side.

Micky van de Ven is faster than anyone

Perhaps his most impressive trait is his pace, and that’s certainly the element of his game that has attracted the most praise so far this season. Deservedly so, too, because van de Ven has now broken the record for sprint speed in the Premier League.

Van de Ven clocked “an astonishing” 37.38 km per hour in the recent victory over Brentford, putting him top of the pile for sprint speed since records started being collected in the 2020/21 campaign.

Interestingly, this has been converted to 10.38m per second, or 23.23 miles per hour, and compared to Usain Bolt’s 100m world record set in 2009. Bolt recorded speeds of 10.44m per second, or 23.35mph (37.58 km/h).

The previous record in the Premier League was, rather unsurprisingly, set by Kyle Walker, who recorded a speed of 37.31km/h at the end of last season. Of the top ten sprint speeds recorded, seven are from this season, which suggests the game, or at least the players, are getting even quicker.

Spurs Web Opinion

It’s such a joy to see Micky van de Ven making those recovery runs and putting in a huge tackle. I always feel confident he will be able to sweep up any mess, and that must be a huge boost for the players around him to know that he is capable of such speed.
