According to Football Italia, Napoli have successfully seen off competition from Tottenham Hotspur and two more clubs to land Alessandro Buongiorno from Torino.

Buongiorno is set to seal move to Napoli

Buongiorno has emerged as one of the most reliable central defenders in Serie A over the last couple of years and earlier this summer, it was widely reported that Tottenham were one of the clubs circling over the player (Tuttosport via Sport Witness).

However, the Italian international is now seemingly on his way to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, with Football Italia claiming that Napoli have agreed a deal worth €35m plus €5m in add-ons for the 25-year-old.

The report states that Antonio Conte‘s side beat competition from Spurs, Juventus and Inter Milan to land the Torino player, who ‘only had his sights on Naples’.

The outlet adds that the centre-back will now undergo his medical over the coming days before signing a long-term contract with the club.

This information has also been backed up by Fabrizio Romano, who has revealed that Buongiorno will sign a five-year contract with Napoli, with his contract set to include a €70m release clause that can be activated from June 2027.

Spurs Web Opinion

A deal from Buongiorno never looked likely from the start for Tottenham while the Calafiori pursuit was always going to prove difficult on the back of the performances he delivered at Euro 2024.

Rather than signing another centre-back this summer, I would not be surprised if Postecoglou opts to sign a left-back as cover for Destiny Udogie and use Ben Davies as his fourth-choice central defender.
