Report: Spurs are now confident of agreeing a deal to sign 24-year-old attacker

90 min have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are now confident of being able to land Al-Ittihad winger Jota this month.

A few days ago, The Telegraph’s Matt Law backed up what we had already heard from other sources by stating that Ange Postecoglou wants to bring in a centre-back, a number eight and a versatile attacker through the door in January.

Interestingly, he added that for the latter of those three roles, Jota was the player that the Premier League side were ‘most likely’ to target.

Spurs confident of agreeing a deal for Jota

90 min have now gone one step further and suggested that a reunion between Jota and Ange Postecoglou is now looking very much on the cards in the current transfer window.

The publication says that they have heard from some sources that the North London club are now confident of finding an agreement with Al-Ittihad to sign the winger on an initial loan deal with an option to make it permanent next summer.

The report adds that the Portuguese winger is keen to return to Europe and a switch to Spurs is ‘greatly appealing’ to the 24-year-old.

I am yet to be fully convinced that Jota is of the required quality to be a starter for a Premier League side with top-four aspirations.

However, Postecoglou knows him well and the former Celtic star might be a reasonable temporary stop-gap as a squad player. A loan deal with an option to buy would not entail any risk for Spurs.
