Report: Spurs are tracking Brazilian midfielder playing in Serie A

Tottenham Hotspur have already signed two players this month, but there is a chance a third could arrive before the end of the January transfer window, with Atalanta midfielder, Ederson, now on the Lilywhites’ radar.

With Timo Werner providing extra firepower in attack, and Radu Dragusin offering Ange Postecoglou some much-needed depth in defence, Spurs can now turn their attention to the other key area they want to improve this month.

Postecoglou has long been rumoured to be looking to upgrade his midfield options and, according to The Independent, a new number 8 is next on the shopping list for the North London club in the winter market.

For a long time, it has been suggested that Spurs’ top target for that position is Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher.

According to Football Insider, the two London clubs are in daily contact regarding the England international, with the Blues willing to sell for around £45-50m. Spurs are reportedly looking to make another ‘marquee signing this month’ and Gallagher is thought to fit the bill.

Spurs looking at Ederson for midfield role

However, it seems Gallagher is not the only option for Spurs, and the latest Transfer Centre update from Sky Sports (16/01/24 at 17:48) reveals the Lilywhites are also monitoring 24-year-old Atalanta midfielder, Ederson.

The report states that, despite “established interest” in Gallagher, Spurs “have also been tracking Atalanta star Ederson.”

Ederson currently has six goals to his name in 27 appearances for the Italian side (Transfermarkt).

However, it is likely any incoming would depend largely on whether the club lets Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg leave this month, and that will not be assessed until later in the window.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would still love to see Conor Gallagher in a Spurs shirt. First and foremost, he is a quality player who would suit our system wonderfully. Second, it would be very funny to see the Chelsea meltdown if we got him. But, Ederson is a very good option, who would cost considerably less than Gallagher.
