Report: Spurs are yet to open talks over transfer target despite rumours

Football.London have revealed that Chelsea have not yet heard from Tottenham Hotspur about Conor Gallagher during the current transfer window.

The speculation linking Gallagher with a move to Spurs, which was dominating the headlines for much of November and December, has gone quiet over the last few weeks.

On Sunday, journalist Paul Brown predicted (on GiveMeSport) that Daniel Levy’s plan could be to wait until the final few days of the transfer window and test Chelsea’s resolve with lowball offers for the 23-year-old.

Gianluca Di Marzio previously reported that Spurs and Chelsea were already in talks over Gallagher.

No talks between Spurs and Chelsea over Gallagher

Football.London have now said that while Tottenham do hold an interest in Gallagher, they are yet to open talks with their London rivals over a deal for the midfielder.

The publication backs up what we heard from other sources recently by stating that the player wants to remain at Stamford Bridge but it is said that his future still ‘remains up in the air’.

This is because selling Gallagher would be of huge help for Chelsea in ensuring they do not fall foul of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, particularly since they are also keen to bring some singings through the door before February 1.

Spurs Web Opinion

All indications are that Levy is playing the waiting game and will look to take advantage of Chelsea’s desperation in the final days of the transfer window, just as he did last summer to land Brennan Johnson from Forest.

However, the one thing that makes me sceptical about the transfer is the fact that the England international does not seem particularly keen on the move. We know that Postecoglou only wants to sign players who are enthusiastic about joining Spurs.
