Report: Spurs could battle Chelsea for Bundesliga defender next summer

According to the print edition of SportBILD (as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotspur could reignite their interest in Edmond Tapsoba at the end of the season.

Tapsoba was heavily linked with a move to Spurs last summer (Guardian) but the North London club decided to sign fellow Bundesliga centre-backs Micky van de Ven instead, with the Dutchman proving an outstanding success at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Leverkusen are having a fabulous campaign, currently looking on course to beat Bayern to the Bundesliga title and Bild explain that a number of players are of interest to clubs across Europe, including Taposba.

Tottenham and Chelsea are both looking at Edmond Tapsoba

It is revealed that the 25-year-old remains on Spurs’ radar and that they could be joined in the race for the player by Chelsea, who are also intent on strengthening at the back next season.

However, it is alleged that the two London clubs will not find it easy to raid Leverkusen for their star players next summer.

That is particularly the case with Tapsoba, who only recently signed a new deal until 2028. Xabi Alonso’s men are thus expected to demand top dollar for the Burkina Faso international.

Now that Postecoglou has Romero, Van de Ven and Dragusin at his disposal, it would make no sense to spend £50m or more on another centre-back in the summer. The bulk of Tottenham’s transfer budget will likely be spent on a number six, a centre-forward and a wide player.
