Report: Tottenham have ‘burst into bidding’ for La Liga midfielder

Mundo Deportivo have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have now ‘burst into the bidding’ for Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie.

Last week, we relayed a report from Sport (30/07/23 via Sport Witness) which suggested that Spurs could challenge Juventus for the services of Kessie.

The publication suggested that the North London club hold a ‘serious’ interest in the Ivorian and were set to make a decision on whether to make a move for the player within a week’s time.

It was suggested that the Lilywhites might hold an advantage over Juventus, who were only willing to sign the former AC Milan man on loan with an option to buy while the Premier League side are willing to meet Barca’s valuation of €15m (£12.9m).

Tottenham burst onto the scene for Franck Kessie

If Mundo Depertivo’s latest update is to be believed, Spurs have burst onto the scene in ‘recent hours’ to try and take Kessie to England.

It is explained that Barca had been in talks with Juve but the Catalan club had not received any convincing proposal from the Italians, and things could now change as Tottenham have entered the picture.

The outlet further cites the fact that Kessie was not involved in Barcelona’s pre-season clash against Real Madrid on Sunday, as a sign that the 26-year-old might be close to a departure from Camp Nou.

Spurs Web Opinion

Kessie would be a far less expensive option than the likes of Douglas Luiz or Conor Gallagher but there is a question mark over whether the Ivorian would be a good fit for Ange Postecoglou’s system.

The Barca star would have arguably been a decent fit for a Conte side but I am not convinced he would offer more than Hojbjerg can in the current set-up.
