Tottenham are on the lookout for more firepower

Ange Postecoglou’s side is seeking to fill a Harry Kane-shaped void that the England captain has left since departing a year ago.

Heung Min Son struggled centrally in attack but recorded 17 league goals, Richarlison was the club’s recognised striker with the Brazilian netting 11 times in the league but being injury-hit for large parts of the season. (FotMob)

Despite Richarlison himself publishing an Instagram post last month claiming he will stay in England this summer, Football.London have reported that ‘the club would listen to any serious offers’ this summer.

There hasn’t been any shortage of links for Spurs and strikers already this summer. Football.London stated on Tuesday morning (25/6/24) that ‘Jonathan David is understood to be among those on the club’s shortlist’.

Ivan Toney of Brentford is another player who has been linked, with GiveMeSport recently claiming Tottenham are ‘seriously interested’ in the striker who netted 20 goals in his debut Premier League season.

However, new reports suggest that the club are interested in completing a more ambitious signing from a London rival…

West Ham ‘swiftly reject’ Tottenham enquiry for Jarrod Bowen.

Jarrod Bowen, who has recorded 60 goals in his 202 West Ham appearances is reportedly of interest to Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham with HITC claiming an enquiry was made ‘at the highest levels between the two clubs’.

Bowen, 27, who is currently in Germany with Gareth Southgate’s England, has plenty of admirers but his current club has reportedly informed Tottenham that they would simply be ‘wasting their time’ if they attempted to pursue their rival’s top goalscorer.

HITC report that the price tag The Hammers have slapped on Bowen is ‘in the region of £150 million’, and that would only be ‘to even consider the sale’.

The fee would be a British transfer record and almost £100 million more than the club’s previous record transfer, understandably the report confirms it’s a fee that Spurs ‘would not go anywhere near’.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham very rarely do any deals with rivals at all, let alone a rival’s star player, so it’s no surprise that this deal is apparently very unlikely.

West Ham will also be seeking a fresh start under the stewardship of Julen Lopetegui, selling fan favourite and top goalscorer, Bowen, could see the Spaniard even walk before the season starts, as he did at Wolves.

The price tag of around £150 million is extortionate, but effectively a number to convey that the England forward isn’t available for sale, at least for Tottenham.

On a wider perspective, a striker appears, and should be, one of the club’s highest priorities this summer with Richarlison frequently injured or perhaps not high enough quality, and Heung-Min Son clearly better operating on the wing rather than at the central striker.
