Report: When Spurs could have Dragusin, Van de Ven and Vicario back in training

Tottenham Hotspur started their pre-season campaign earlier this week, but are still without some international players following their Euros and Copa America involvement. But when will the likes of Micky Van de Ven, Radu Dragusin, and Guglielmo Vicario return to training? (Football London)

Romania’s hero – Radu Dragusin

Radu Dragusin had an excellent tournament for Romania as they deservedly pipped Belgium, Slovakia and Ukraine to the top spot in Group E at the Euros in Germany. (UEFA)

The young defender signed a contract to be at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until 2030 in January of 2024 however, Spurs fans haven’t had much of an opportunity to see him in action as the pairing of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero was often preferred last season.

This didn’t stop him from impressing in the cameos he did make, however, and his staunch defending at the Euros have left Romanians, Spurs fans and neutrals purring over his performances.

Dragusin eventually fell at the Euros as the Netherlands put Romania to the sword in a 3-0 defeat, but that shouldn’t take away from Dragusins performance in the game, as he was his country’s shining light and recorded an excellent Sofascore rating of 7.03 throughout the tournament. (Sofascore)

Following a well-deserved rest, we should expect him back at Hotspur Way just before Spurs’ tour to Asia. So, Postecoglou should have his man back before the 25th of July.

Super Sub Micky Van de Ven

Micky van de Ven showed his electric pace whenever Ronald Koeman subbed him on at the Euros, but he was often deployed as a direct replacement for Nathan Ake at left-back.

The young Dutchman didn’t start a single match; however, he put in a top performance when the Netherlands were 2-1 winners against Turkey, making an incredible game-winning block in that match.

He is also expected to be back training at Hotspur Way just before Spurs jet off to Asia and kick the tour off with a match against Vissel Kobe in the J-League world challenge on the 27th of July.

Vicario’s Vantage

Guglielmo Vicario, who kept a clean sheet on his Azzuri debut against Ecuador this year, didn’t see a single minute of action at the Euros due to Gianluigi Donnaruma being the first choice for the Italians.

When he returns to Hotspur Way next week, he will surely be excited to get back into the swing of things. Having not played a single minute, he shouldn’t suffer from physical or mental fatigue going into his second pre-season at the club.

Spurs Web Opinion

It’s a blessing in disguise that barely any of our players had significant minutes at the Euros or Copa America this summer, apart from the likes of Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso.

It’s allowed our players a significant break as prominent names like James Maddison and Pedro Porro missed out on their national teams.

I see it as a positive in that they’ll be fighting tooth and nail to prove their respective nations wrong by the time the 2026 World Cup rolls around, and we should see the full benefit of that on the pitch.
