Senior Spurs player pledges his future to the club after revealing he has rejected other offers

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has insisted that he remains committed to the North Londoners for many years to come and dismissed suggestions over his commitment at club level.

Romero impressed during his first season at Tottenham while on loan from Atalanta and like many players last season, having completed his permanent £42.5 million transfer he struggled in Antonio Conte’s side.

The 25-year-old played a key role in helping Argentina to lift the World Cup last winter and has been quick to shoot down suggestions that he cares more about playing for his national team than Spurs and revealed he has snubbed approaches to move elsewhere.

Cristian Romero commits his future to Tottenham

He told The Athletic: “The people that say this clearly don’t know me because I’m contracted to the club for many (more) years. I always try to give my best. Obviously last season it didn’t always turn out great and you accept that. But I always try to give absolutely everything on the field.

“If I didn’t feel the same passion, I would look to leave the club. Obviously I’m not happy with how last season ended for me and I’m the first to hold my hands up and say it wasn’t the best season but when I got offers from other clubs to move away for this coming season, I said no because I want to have my best years here. I really like the Premier League, I really like Tottenham and I want to be here for many more years to come.”

Romero had been linked with a return to former club Juventus earlier this summer with Argentinian journalist Gaston Edul claiming that the Old Lady were keen to land the centre half.

It is refreshing to see Cuti Romero come out and set the picture right about the stigma of his prority to Argentina but also to see that he has pledged his future to the club under the management of new head coach Ange Postecoglou.

Romero has four years remaining on his current contract and Spurs fans will certainly be looking for him to return to the form which made him such a favourite during his first campaign in N17.
