Spurs star Guglielmo Vicario has been nominated for a Premier League award

Guglielmo Vicario has capped a fine start to his career at Tottenham Hotspur by being nominated for the Premier League save of the month for August.

In a busy summer of transfer activity, Guglielmo Vicario was the first new face through the door during the Ange Postecoglou era at Spurs.

The Italian stopper has instantly replaced former Tottenham number one, Hugo Lloris, and is doing a fine job between the sticks, too.

Vicario has two clean sheets from his first four games – more than any Premier League keeper so far – and has been an integral part of the Lilywhites’ unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign.

Despite some initial shakiness in the opening game against Brentford, Vicario has since shown great composure on the ball, and made some very impressive saves.

Arguably his best performance came in the 2-0 win against Manchester United. The 27-year-old made a number of big saves to deny the Red Devils and secure all three points for Spurs.

One such save, to keep out a Casemiro header in the 57th minute, helped protect Tottenham’s slender 1-0 lead at the time.

Bruno Fernandes sent a ball into the Spurs box and Casemiro powered a header towards goal, but Vicario was able to leap and palm away the Brazilian’s effort.

The save was so good, that it is one of six nominees for the Premier League Save of the Month award for August. You can vote for Vicario here.

Other nominees include Jordan Pickford, Jose Sa, Mark Flekken, Alphonse Areola, and Alisson.

Spurs Web Opinion

The save against Manchester United was so important in us getting the win, and will likely have given Vicario a huge boost of confidence. I didn’t expect him to settle in and perform this well so soon, but long may it continue.
