Argentinean journalist Uriel Lugt has taken to social media platform X to reveal that the North Londoners want to see Alejo Veliz head out on loan to a fellow Premier League side next season.

The 20-year-old joined Sevilla on loan in January but endured a miserable stint with the La Liga outfit having played just a measly 29 minutes across 6 appearances during his time in Spain (transfermarkt).

Veliz was reported to have been attracting interest from his homeland with River Plate and Racing said to have enquired about his services, however, a move back to Argentina has been ruled out.

Tottenham instead want to see Veliz get more Premier League experience, while there is also interest from clubs in Italy.

Alejo Veliz could be set for Premier League loan spell

Veliz made ten appearances for Tottenham across all competitions last season prior to his loan spell and scored his first top flight goal in the 4-2 defeat at Brighton and Hove Albion on New Year’s Eve (transfermarkt).

SpursWeb Opinion

We have seen Tottenham send players on loan to Spain in the past and it simply has not helped with their development when it comes to returning to the Premier League.

Bryan Gil is a prime example of this where loan spells at Sevilla and Valencia may have seen him perform well in Spain, but it did not benefit him from helping to improve his ability to play in England.

Giovani Lo Celso is another who has lit up La Liga but again struggled upon heading back to the Spurs first team squad.

Physicality is a big part of the English game and Gil would have been better suited to have been loaned out to a club in the bottom half of the Premier League where he could have played week in, week out and bulked up to what the league is all about.

Hopefully, Veliz finds himself on loan at the likes of Southampton where he could get regular game time and return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a year’s time looking to break into the starting eleven.
