‘Top of the game’ – Pundit says two Spurs stars made it look ‘easy’ against Arsenal

Michael Owen has praised the performances that James Maddison and Son Heung-min delivered against Arsenal, remarking that the duo made Tottenham’s second goal look easy.

Maddison and Son combined for both of Tottenham’s goals at the Emirates, with Spurs coming from behind twice to secure a draw.

The first goal was quite brilliantly executed, with Maddison wriggling away from Bukayo Saka and getting to the byline before delivering a low cross, which Son got a perfect connection on despite being heavily marked.

The pair showed their quality again in the second half just a minute after Arsenal had re-taken the lead from the penalty spot.

Maddison pinched the ball off Jorginho in the middle of the park and carried it around 10 yards before laying the ball to the South Korean, who slotted the ball calmly past David Raya.

Heung-min Son and Maddison make it look easy

Owen believes that the Tottenham duo made the second goal look easier than it is by doing everything perfectly.

He told Premier League Production (24/09/23 at 4:15 pm). “They made that look easy (Tottenham’s second goal). In theory, it’s an easy pass, but it’s the timing of the pass. Making sure everyone is onside. It’s the timing, the weight and it’s the finish. The calmness.

“It’s two players at the top of their game. If Tottenham are asking for two players to be bearing down on goal there, then you are thinking ‘please be Maddison and please be Son’, and it was. They made a difficult enough of a situation look easy.”

So many strikers would have panicked if they were in Son’s position for the second goal as the 31-year-old had a lot of time to think about the finish and always knew that the ball was going to come to him. Yet, he kept his composure and got the perfect connection, giving Raya no chance.
