Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Yves Bissouma will be wearing the number eight shirt ahead of the new season.
After a disappointing first season at Tottenham, Bissouma will be hoping to showcase the best version of himself this year, with the midfielder seemingly being given a new lease of life by Ange Postescoglou’s arrival at the club.
Reports indicate that the Mali international has already won over the Australian during pre-season, with the new Spurs head coach expecting the former Brighton man to be a key player for him during the upcoming season (Football.London).
Yves Bissouma replaces Harry Winks as new No. 8
The Sun’s Tom Barclay even said on the Tottenham Way Podcast last week that Postescoglou wants Bissouma to take up a leadership role and set an example to the younger players in the Spurs squad.
The midfielder has now seemingly been handed a squad number that corresponds with his importance in the new regime, with the club confirming that the 26-year-old will be wearing the number eight shirt which was vacated by Harry Winks.

I wonder if this is perhaps a sign that Postecoglou sees Bissouma as more of a number eight rather than a number six, in which case Spurs would have to enter the market for a midfield pivot, particularly with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg seemingly on his way out.
