Cristian Romero the genius

Coming off the back of an impressive individual campaign for Spurs, including five goals in 33 games as part of the Lilywhites’ backline, Romero has started his summer in style.

The combative centre-half has shown a new level to his game this season, maturing and displaying a greater sense of composure, particularly in the latter half of the campaign.

At international level, Romero is heralded as one of the very best defenders for his country and indeed across the sport.

Romero has now made it three games unbeaten for Argentina in 2024 and has taken his tally to 31 caps for his country (Transfermarkt).

Cristian Romero shines for Argentina

Not only did he score in the win over El Salvador in March, but he has now added a fine assist to his record in the 1-0 win over Ecuador on Monday night. Romero pushed up high and, at the edge of the box, played in a wonderfully weighted ball for Angel Di Maria to strike the winning goal.

Now, praise has come way his thanks to a report from Ole (via Sport Witness), claiming it’s the Spurs man who “stole the show” in the game, and even describing Romero as a “genius.”

His teammate, Rodrigo de Paul, told the newspaper Romero is a “complete” player.

Romero himself commented on the assist, saying: “These are moments. I had just gone to press. That’s why I went through. Then Rodri gave me a nice pass and I just heard [Di Maria] say he was going through.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Cristian Romero is the best centre-back in the Premier League, and is right up there for his position in the whole world.

I think we will see him get even better next season, too, as he revels in the responsibility he is given at Spurs.
