Journalist Dean Jones has admitted that Tottenham Hotspur still would be interested in potentially landing Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey this summer.

Ramsey experienced something of a frustrating campaign with Villa over the past season having suffered respective foot and toe issues which limited him to just 21 appearances across all competitions (transfermarkt) and it has been widely reported over recent months that Tottenham have asked about the midfielder’s availability (The Athletic).

Earlier this month, The Telegraph handed Spurs a blow over the prospect of bringing him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium by suggesting that the North London club are expected to be priced out of a move for Ramsey this summer, adding that the Villa academy graduate wants to remain at his boyhood club.

However, this claim was contradicted a few days later by Football Insider, who insisted that Unai Emery’s side would be open to cashing in on their academy graduate, given their perilous PSR situation.

The report suggested that the Champions League qualifiers had identified Ramsey as the player to be sacrificed for sale since he is generating plenty of interest and the transfer fee they receive for him will go down as pure profit in their books.

Jacob Ramsey would be of interest to Tottenham

Jones expects Spurs to very much be involved in the race for the 23-year-old’s signature this summer.

The journalist told Ranks FC Ultras Podcast: “Keep an eye on other good opportunities for homegrown talents. You’ve seen that they’ve been in conversations for Tosin and Lloyd Kelly, so look out for Jacob Ramsey for example from Villa.

“He’s been mentioned to me before as someone Tottenham would have a look at because of the profile, the status, where they stand in the squad set-up and that would be very interesting to them.”

There is certainly a clear theme emerging in Tottenham’s quest for a number eight, with the club wanting an energetic, young and homegrown player, with Ramsey, Conor Gallagher and Morgan Gibbs-White fitting that description.
