‘Will have an impact’ – Chris Sutton predicts the score for Wolves vs Tottenham

The early kick-off in the Premier League this weekend features Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Chris Sutton believes Spurs’ injury and suspension issues will catch up with them.

Tottenham saw their unbeaten run under Ange Postecoglou come to an end on Monday night in dramatic fashion, with Chelsea taking the three points in a feisty 4-1 win.

Spurs did take the lead early on through Dejan Kulusevski‘s but began to unravel when both Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie were shown red cards.

The Lilywhites also saw key players Micky van de Ven and James Maddison leave the field with injuries. It is now likely that all four will be absent for the weekend’s action.

So, Postecoglou’s men will be looking to bounce back from a chaotic defeat against Gary O’Neil’s Wolves side. They too need to pick themselves up again, after falling to defeat against Sheffield United last weekend.

Sutton predicts draw for Wolves vs Tottenham

In his regular column for the BBC, Chris Sutton has this game down as a draw, largely due to the players Spurs will have missing.

He said: “It was incredible to watch what Ange Postecoglou tried to do by keeping such a high line when Tottenham went down to nine men against Chelsea. I was a fan of his at Celtic, and I know he likes to do things differently, but I’d never seen anything like that in my lifetime – and I loved it.

“They lost 4-1 in the end but had chances at 2-1 and came so close to getting a draw. Spurs are depleted now with injuries to James Maddison and Micky van de Ven, and Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie suspended, so it’s going to be a patched-up Tottenham side at Molineux.

“Postecoglou is not going to change the way he plays, but of course all of those absences will have an impact. Wolves were very unlucky to lose to a late Sheffield United penalty last week – it looked like a dive to me – and they have been much improved in recent weeks. On that basis, I’m going for a draw.

“Sutton’s prediction: 1-1.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Both sides will be extra determined not to lose again here and I think we’ll see a much tighter game. Spurs will be lacking a bit of confidence given the absent players, but I fancy us to still have just enough to grab a 2-1 win.
