‘With my heart’ – Vicario opens up on how Lloris helped him behind-the-scenes

Guglielmo Vicario has said that it has been an honour to work with a legend such as Hugo Lloris over the last six months and wished the Frenchman the best in his new adventure in the United States of America.

In most cases, it is natural for there to be some friction when a new player like Vicario comes in to take the place of an experienced icon such as Lloris, who, much to people’s surprise last summer, remained at Tottenham.

However, given the type of gentleman and professional the 36-year-old is, that was never going to be the case, with the former Tottenham captain having seemingly welcomed his successor with open arms.

Lloris said his final goodbyes to the Tottenham fans during half-time of the clash against Bournemouth on Sunday before his move to Los Angeles FC, with the goalkeeper admitting that he will be a ‘Spurs man’ for life (Yahoo Sports).

Hugo Lloris has been helping Guglielmo Vicario

The Italian has now spoken in glowing terms of the departing star, admitting that he thoroughly enjoyed getting to know him since arriving at Hotspur Way last summer.

Vicario said (via Football.London): “I can just say it is an honour just to have had the opportunity to have worked with him for the last six months.

“I think he is an unbelievable professional player every day with me. He helped me a lot in every training session.

“I think what he did for this club is just amazing. All the best to Hugo for what he did in his career for this club for the Spurs and what he achieved also with the national team, because when you lift up the World Cup as a captain you have reached the best in your life.

“He is the best keeper. He has been here for 11 seasons and kept a lot of clean sheets, playing Champions League. I just wish him all the best for his future. He is a fantastic guy. I am very, very proud – and I say that with my heart – that I met him in my career.”

While Vicario certainly has big shoes to fill both in terms of a goalkeeping and leadership perspective, the early signs are that the 27-year-old possesses the required talent and temperament to do just that.
